Finding A Therapist | What To Expect | Terminology | FAQ

Nikolai: “If only I could find the answers to my three questions, then I would always know what to do: When is the best time to do things? Who is the most important one? Who is the right thing to do?

Leo the Turtle: “Remember then that there is only one important time, and that time is now. The most important one is always the one you are with. And the most important thing is to do good for the one who is standing at your side. For these, my dear boy, are the answers to what is most important in this world. This is why we are here.”

First session what to expect:
Whether you are seeking counseling for the first time or have seen a counselor before, you may have questions about therapy. Will I make you lie down on a couch and reveal your deepest dark secrets that you never intended to share? How can just “talking” help me change? Will I get anything out of therapy? Let me assure you, you’re not alone in these concerns. It might be helpful to know “practically” what to expect.

Once you have entered the suite, take a seat in the waiting area and I will come out and greet you. I will bring you into a cozy, living room style office that has a loveseat and big armchair. I will not make you down on the couch unless you want to. The first few sessions will be a time of introduction not only into your life: why you are seeking counseling, who you are in the past, present, and hope to be in the future, and what changes you hope to make. But also an introduction of how I work with people and what you might expect from me in the counseling process. My hope is that our relationship will propel you towards the changes desired in your life.

For our first session, please arrive 10 minutes earlier to fill out necessary forms. Each session will last 50 minutes for individuals and 90 minutes for couples, families, and groups. Usually we will meet once a week.

I look forward to meeting you. You can contact me by phone or email.
